It is something we all need to make isn’t it? We’ve grown up with them, Music videos. The flash, the pomp, the sexual appeal and the outright coolness of a music video star. It is one of the things that draws us to creating music, that want for recognition. Sure it’s simple to say we simply make music for ourselves, but lets be truthful. We make music as we need folk to love it, and vicariously us. The difficulty, is that an indie band just does not have the money to put out a genuine awe-inspiring video. Or at least that is what the general public believe. With the expansion of cheap and functional video modifying software the production part is not a real problem any more. Having a camera that will connect to your PC isn’t a big thing any more either. If you needed to, you might shoot a music promo with a mobile phone.
It would not look pro, but anything you shoot at home most likely wont anyhow. Unless you chance to know a film student. In that case you actually have no excuse. So lets be truthful, the single thing limiting anybody from doing a music promo nowadays, is the imagination and guts to make one.
It is not like there’s a dearth of places to put them.
MySpace and YouTube spring to mind instantly. So I guess you’re puzzling over where you must start. Well, you can start by listening to your songs and selecting which would make a great video. After you know which song you would like to work with, hear the tune and think about what would make an appropriate video for it. If you do people songs, getting a few of the people together around a campfire and doing the track would work best. Well I hope you have learned that there are no excuses for not making videos for your music. They don’t have to be pro. The entire point of a Music video, is for your audience to see you, to experience your vision. So what are you waiting for? Go out and make something cool.
