Get more sleep for lower blood pressure

It should be common sense but scientists now have proof that getting plenty of sleep can help to maintain lower blood pressure. Bad sleeping, insomnia and sleep deprivation have all been linked to high blood pressure.

Chicago University studied this problem with 600 subjects over six years. They found that for every hour less that people sleep they have a 37% greater chance of having hypertension.

Not just lack of sleep but also quality of sleep in linked to blood pressure. The body naturally raises blood pressure when you wake up in preparation for physical activity. So people who toss and turn and wake up frequently while sleeping are experiencing significant spikes in their blood pressure that not only ruin a night’s sleep but can lead to chronic hypertension.

Experts now say that a minimum of 8 hours sleep a night is required for good health and nine or ten hours sleep can be even better for your blood pressure.
